10 SEQUEL/SPIN OFF FILMS WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2024

December 31, 2023 by Bill Leave a Comment

When we sat down to see what films we were looking forward to seeing in 2024, it was rather sad to see how many where sequels or spin offs to already existing movies.

So, we created this separate list of them, and these are the 10 films we are looking forward to in 2024 that are franchises coming to the big screen.

We have to be honest, sequels can be a mixed bag and a lot of our list has been chosen from our love of our previous entries in these franchises, but we always remain hopeful.

You can read our list of 10 original films we want to see here https://barkingmadaboutfilms-com.stackstaging.com/10-original-films-we-want-to-see-in-2024/

  1. PADDINGTON IN PERU

A third outing for Paddington sees the marmalade eating bear return to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, should be a lot of fun but with a new director involved, we remain cautious.

Previous director Paul King and Simon Farnaby who wrote Paddington 2 and Wonka are writing the script so it will not be a completely new team behind the scenes.

  1. KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

This new film from Maze Runner trilogy director Wes Ball has been confirmed as not a reboot, but connected to Matt Reeves previous trilogy and that was an almost perfect series of films and we have always enjoyed the Apes movies from the first with Charlton Heston & Roddy McDowall (even the Tim Burton one) so this has us curious.

  1. JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX

The first Joker was unlike most comic book heroes’ films and was all the better for it, Joaquin Phoenix returning and the addition of Lady GaGa really sounds like a must see, even though as yet no real plot is known so we don’t know what to expect.

  1. GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE

In most years, a Godzilla film would probably place higher, but due to the brilliance that was Godzilla: Minus One, this feels it has tough shoes to fill and it is because of that, our excitement has maybe reduced.

  1. GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE

If we are honest, we didn’t love Ghostbusters: Afterlife but we feel it did set up the events for this one and with this having an eco-disaster storyline with a second ice age coming and with some familiar and new faces added to the cast, this does look like a worthwhile watch.

  1. DEADPOOL 3

Deadpool and Wolverine, this should be a lot of fun and like Joker, it does feel like a different category of comic book hero going for an older audience, and above all the constant play that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have over social media, so to see them together as much loved characters makes this a must see.

  1. BALLERINA

A John Wick spin off set between the events of Chapter 3 and 4, with Ana de Armas in the lead, we hope this can match the Wick movies, but we feel like ‘The Continental’, it will leave us wanting but hope we are wrong.

3. FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA

A prequel to the incredible Mad Max: Fury Road which follows the Charlize Theron character of Imperator Furiosa played by Anya Taylor-Joy with George Miller returning to direct.

Just on Fury Road alone, this is an absolute must see.

  1. ALIEN: ROMULUS

An alien film set between the events of the first movie and Aliens and from the director of Evil Dead reboot and Don’t Breathe, we have hopes this will be an action-packed horror ride and a change of pace from the last two entries of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant

And at 1. BEETLEJUICE 2

The original Beetlejuice is special to us, it was the film that started our love of the works of Tim Burton and with Tim directing and most of the cast returning, and with Jenna Ortega added to the cast and most interesting of all Monica Bellucci is listed in IMDb as BeetleJuice’s wife.

Tim does not normally do sequels, but one that he did do was Batman Returns, and in our opinion that surpassed the original, so we have high hopes that this can be magical.
