Hi, it is Bill and Teddy the Chihuahua again and time for our May Barking Mad About Films Newsletter.
In our newsletter, we will aim to share some of our thoughts and watches of the month and what we are looking forward to in the next month.
So, without any further ado, welcome to our OCTOBER review….
BARKING MAD ABOUT OCTOBER
This month was a month all about horror, as we took place in the annual Shocktober challenge of watching a horror movie every day.
As ever, you can see every movie that we watched on our Letterboxd Account.
BARKING MAD ABOUT HORROR
As ever, we took part in doing the Shocktober aka 31 Days of Horror/Halloween challenge, as we watched a horror/scary movie every day.
We did all three Terrifier movies.
The original and its sequel version of The Strangers.
We watched both Smile movies.
We watched Legend of the Mummy, mainly due to an appearance from the late Louis Gossett Jr, and its inferior sequel.
We also watched and they were not as bad as they have been made out to be, but both Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey films.
We also watched killer pumpkin short, Carved and its remake into a full length feature which was a lot of fun.
All three of the I know what you did last summer movies after hearing news of a new film next year.
We watched Apartment 7a, a prequel to Rosemary’s Baby which we also watched.
We watched the original and remake of Sorority Row.
We also watched the original and remake of Nosferatu ahead of the new version coming soon.
We also watched the most recent attempt to remake The Wolfman and Silent Hill, both of which have new versions coming soon.
Highlights of new watches for us included Lisa Frankenstein and Housebound.
Outside of horror, we did watch the original Joker as we headed the sequel to see it’s sequel and also the first two Venom films as again we went to the cinema to see the final in the trilogy.
We also revisited 20,000 leagues under the sea, ahead of watching the Nautilus, a new Captain Nemo adventure series.
Check out our Letterboxd or socials, if you want to see what we have been watching.
BARKING MAD ABOUT THE CINEMA
We managed four visits to the cinema in October and it was sequels and horror other than our highlight, and it is safe to say we went wild for The Wild Robot.
We loved Peter Brown’s book and Lilo and Stitch director Chris Sanders did a fantastic job of bringing the pages to life, it will definitely be in our end of year top ten.
We saw a couple of comic book sequels.
Joker: Folie a Deux, which we appeared to be in the minority as we actually enjoyed it.
We also saw Venom: The Last Dance which was a satisfactory ending to the trilogy.
We also saw Terrifier 3, a horror sensation at the box office, if you liked the first two, you will love this, if you didn’t it will not win you round.
We also enjoyed Smile 2, but much like the first film, we thought it could have been a brilliant 90-minute film rather than 2 hours.
BARKING MAD ABOUT BOOKS
We once again had a few books in our read list that have been inspired by forthcoming films or films recently announced.
We really enjoyed Reminders of Him, a Collen Hoover book heading for the big screen.
As we also did for Levon’s Trade, a Chuck Dixon action book, which is being adapted by Sylvester Stallone to be a Jason Statham film.
We really loved Frieda McFadden book, The Housemaid, which is being made into a film by Paul Feig and will star the internet’s current fav, Sydney Sweeney.
BARKING MAD ABOUT HOME VIEWING IN THE MONTH AHEAD.
After being focused on Horror for a month, we don’t really have any themes we want to watch but with the release of Paddington 3, we will use as an excuse to watch the original 2 films and with Wicked in cinemas soon, we will do a first time watch for us of The Wizard of Oz!
BARKING MAD ABOUT DARE WE SAY IT, CHRISTMAS.
Our cinema trips will likely included Gladiator II but also Red One, so it may be time to start planning our Christmas watches.
BARKING MAD ABOUT TV.
We are still loving The Penguin on Sky/Now and is great to see one of our favourites, Cristin Milioti finally being recognized as being an amazing talent.
With it being October, we continued watching the excellent Creepshow TV series on ITVX
We are back with Starfleet and loved the final season of animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.
And as previously mentioned, we really enjoyed Nautilus.
So, what were your October highlights and what are you looking forward to inNovember?
