This review is based only on the films at the cinema, that being said, we feel only maybe Lisa Frankenstein and Late Night with the Devil would have challenged our list.
Before we start the list some honorable mentions for those that really banged at the door:
Spider horror Sting, which featured a chihuahua so got our attention was a lot of fun;
Dune 2 we actually enjoyed more than the first one, but we do not connect with it as much as we do as other SyFy films and enjoy them more for the cinematic experience that they deliver.
The Mean Girls musical seems to be widely hated, but we really enjoyed it and still play the soundtrack to this day.
Abigail was an enjoyable horror, and Heretic gave us an incredible Hugh Grant performance, Terrifier 3 was possibly the goriest film we saw, but was it the best of the 3, not for us.
The Bike Riders about a bike gang and the relationships in it should not have appealed to us, but with some great performances, this was a really enjoyable drama.
Godzilla X Kong would have made the list in any other year, but Godzilla Minus One was still fresh In our minds and it suffered a bit for us comparing the two.
Again, with Furiosa, some stunning action sequences, but we unfairly maybe, prepared for seeing the film by rewatching Mad Max: Fury Road and the new prequel was never going to match that.
Possibly the unluckiest for our list was Sydney Sweeney, Immaculate was a great horror with a shocking ending, and Anyone But You was a great romcom, that being said the best film we saw her in was Reality, in which the FBI target her character for leaking reports, based on a true story.
BUT NOW FOR OUR TOP TEN
At 10 it was Deadpool & Wolverine.
We enjoyed it, and probably was our favorite of the 3 but it did seem to have a paper thin story and relied on its cameos.
We have to say, had we not seen this film on the first day, it probably would not have made the list as even its own social media accounts were sharing who the cameos were, which would have ruined it.
At 9 was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
We went into this film with really low expectations, the previous trilogy was near perfect but yet this felt a good continuation and not a cash grab and we really enjoyed it.
At 8 was A Quiet Place: Day One.
We actually saw this after a few weeks of release, as saw many people sharing how they enjoyed it on social media.
We had put it off as really did not like Part Two, but this was a great story, and I don’t think we have ever seen a film in which we cared for the cat and desperately wanted it to survive.
At 7 was Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
This may have been our most favorite, since the original, the comedy was funny and the action was off the scale.
However, we did come out of the cinema scratching our head, because we have no idea how its directing team could have made a Batgirl film that was not good enough for release =(
At 6 was Wicked Little Letters.
This was a brilliant comedy drama thanks to the brilliant performances of its cast.
At 5 was Juror #2.
This was a great courtroom drama, which sees a juror on a trial, deciding on the defendant being guilty or not guilty.
The twist being the juror is the guilty one.
If this does become Clint Eastwood’s last film it was a great one to go out on.
At 4 was The Fall Guy.
We went in with fond memories of the Lee Majors TV series, and this was a great action comedy, helped by great Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, and Jean Claude the scene stealing dog.
The film however probably would have rated higher had it been under two hours.
At 3 was The Iron Claw.
This drama based on a true-life wrestling family hit with so many tragedies was outstanding, heartbreaking and just brilliant.
At 2 was BeetleJuice, Beetlejuice.
Normally legacy sequels tend to lose the magic of this original, but Tim Burton bringing back the main cast and adding Jenna Ortega meant we had as much fun as the original and his place as our all-time favorite director remains unthreatened.
But our number one, based on a book that was probably one of our favorite reads of the year as well was The Wild Robot.
This story of an abandoned robot connecting with nature was superb, fantastic animation, it kept all the magic and heartbreak of the book, and it just felt special.

So that is our top 10, but what are yours?
