We finally got to seeing Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to one of our favourite films of all time. We had high hopes going in as came from director Denis Villeneuve of Sicario and Arrival, 2 films that we found amazing too.
This film centres around K, a Blade Runner played by Ryan Gosling, who after an early confrontation with Sapper played by Dave Bautista, we soon learn is a replicant.
After this fight, bones are found which are of a replicant woman, but the shock is she has given birth. This of course, of course, find and Lt Joshi (Robin Wright) needs K to investigate to find out more, as of course the fears around this could create anger between human and replicant, maybe even leading to war!
Of course, the fact that a replicant has given birth is big news and alerts the Wallace Corporation who are now the leaders in bioengineered humans, having taken over the Tyrell corporation from the original. Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) wants this information and sends out his best replicant Luv (Sylvia Hoeks) to beat K to finding this information.
It will come as no surprise that the replicant that gave birth was Rachael (Sean Young) the partner of Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) in the original film. With Rachael deceased, Rick is the target for both K and Luv to try and find the whereabouts of the child and more information on how this happened.
On this journey, we see K and his journey to feel human emotions, he even appears to be in love with a Wallace Corporation human hologram called Joi (Ana De Armas) who has been designed to the individual for companionship.
Fans of the original will also love to see Gaff (Edward James Olmos) in a brief cameo as K looks for clues to finding Deckard. Those fans will also love this film, which we are pleased to say it is well worth the wait as this is a superb sequel. Special mention needs to go to Roger Deakins for the incredible cinematography and the score by Hans Zimmer.
For a film which is just under 3 hours literally flies by, its hard to discuss the film without giving away too many spoilers so we will end by saying just see it, there are parts of the story that could lead to a 3rd film but having underperformed at the box office it is looking unlikely
Also, we now of course being barking mad about films, love that Rick Deckard now has a dog =)
