Barking Mad About Films, TV, and Books

One man and his dog; both barking mad about films, TV, and books

The Barking Mad About Films Look Back of November

December 2, 2024 by Bill Leave a Comment

Hi, it is Bill and Teddy the Chihuahua again and time for our May Barking Mad About Films Newsletter.

In our newsletter, we will aim to share some of our thoughts and watches of the month and what we are looking forward to in the next month.

So, without any further ado, welcome to our November review….

BARKING MAD ABOUT NOVEMBER

After a month of horror films, it was nice to vary our viewing, not to say we didn’t watch a few horror films along the way.

We watched the Maniac Cop trilogy, we saw Mother’s Instinct, a worthy adaptation of the book it was based on.

We love Noel Wells voice performance as Tendi in Star Trek: Lower Decks, so we wanted to put a face to the voice so had a triple bill of her movies in Happy Anniversary; The Incredible Jessica James and Mr. Roosevelt.

And plenty of other first time watches and rewatches.

BARKING MAD ABOUT OZ

With Wicked in cinemas, we decided to watch the previous well known Oz movies, being The Wizard of Oz, Return to Oz and Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Incredibly, Wizard of Oz was a first time watch of ours, and we definitely regret leaving it so long!

BARKING MAD ABOUT DOUBLE BILLS

Randomly we watched a few films, that worked as a double bill.
We watched Bruce Almighty and followed it with Evan Almighty.

We watched two escaped lion based films called Prey.

We did a double bill of cult classic Samurai Cop and its sequel.

We have been watching Jodie Foster movies this year, so we watcher her version of Freaky Friday as well as the remake.

And we had a very random Thanksgiving double bill of classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles and err killer turkey movie, Thankskilling.

BARKING MAD ABOUT THE CINEMA

We managed Three visits to the cinema in November.

The highlight was a chilling yet at times comical as well, performance from Hugh Grant in Heretic.

We really enjoyed Juror #2 from director Clint Eastwood, if this is to be his last film, then he left on a high note.

And finally a sign of things to come as we saw our first festive film, Red One, perhaps overlong, it was a fun and easy watch.

BARKING MAD ABOUT BOOKS

We once again had a few books in our read list that have been inspired by forthcoming films or films recently announced.

We really two books that have been adapted to films that have passed us by at the cinema, The Outrun by Amy Liptrot and The Friend by Sigrid Nunez.

We really loved Book Lovers by Emily Henry and Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover, both soon to be adapted into films.

We even read the short children’s picture book, That Christmas by Richard Curtis, who has now adapted to become a Netflix film.

And having loved The Martian, we read Andy Weir’s excellent Project Hail Mary, and look forward ot seeing Ryan Gosling in the movie adaptation in the near future

BARKING MAD ABOUT HOME VIEWING IN THE MONTH AHEAD.

It’s festive movies all the way this month.

BARKING MAD ABOUT TV.

A quiet month for TV, we finished The Penguin and continue to watch Star Trek: Lower Decks but we didn’t really start any new shows this month.

We are looking forward to Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and the Dexter prequel/origin series in December.
