Barking Mad About Films, TV, and Books

One man and his dog; both barking mad about films, TV, and books

THE BARKING MAD ABOUT FILMS TOP 10 FILMS WE CANNOT WAIT TO SEE IN 2025

January 20, 2025 by Bill Leave a Comment

2025 promises again plenty of great entertainment but we are choosing 1o films currently planned for cinema release that we cannot wait to see.

Some Honorable Mentions:

THE RETURN OF SOME OF OUR HORROR FAVOURITES

Some big horror franchises return in 2025 and we have even chosen one in our top 10 that will follow, including Jigsaw’s return in Saw XI; M3GAN 2.0 brings the killer doll a new update; and the fisherman with the hook returns in a new I Know What You Did Last Summer entry.

JACK QUAID

We didn’t include either in our top 10 but we are definitely looking forward to both his new films this year in Novocaine and Companion.

We will also be looking forward to his return in The Boys on TV.

And we remain fingers crossed that despite Star Trek: Lower Decks being sadly cancelled we will see him as Brad Boimler and his crew mates again in the Star Trek Universe.

THE ONE THAT WE CAN’T DECIDE ON

This year we will be getting a Live-Action Lilo and Stitch film.

We have yet to see one of these reimagined from the animated Disney Classic that we have loved and so we have some concerns, especially as Lilo and Stitch is in our top movies of all time.

Having never enjoyed a live action from animation film before, we felt we could not include this in our top ten, yet the animation does look good, the voice cast, especially Chris Sanders returning to give Stitch his voice does give us some hope.

So here are the ten that we definitely want to be seeing on the big screen in 2025:

  1. FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES

We have already mentioned some of the horror franchise we enjoy with new entries, but this is the one that stands out for us.

This will be the first entry since Final Destination 5 in 2011, we know nothing about it at the present time, but expecting a huge disaster filled opening set piece followed then by some imaginative deaths from the survivors of that opening.

9: BENEATH THE STORM

Again, one we know very little about, but we are a sucker for a shark film and this one is coming from Tommy Wirkola, who made the very enjoyable Violent Night.

A coastal town is under attack from sharks after a huge hurricane, it feels a bit like Bait 3-D but with a cast including Djimon Hounsou and Phoebe Dyvnevor, we are hoping for a JAWSome piece of entertainment to take a bite out of.

8: HEART EYES

We are looking forward to this new horror film about the ‘Heart Eyes Killer’ who kills on Valentines’ Day.

It looks a lot of fun with some good scares and follows a good tradition of such films as Valentine and My Bloody Valentine.

7: MICKEY 17

We loved the book, and this was on our list last year, so we are still hoping the delay is worthwhile, the trailers seem to capture the book so we have high hopes, especially as from director Bong Joon Ho.

6: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: THE FINAL RECKONING

If ever a franchise has belonged on the big screen, it is the Mission Impossible series, we are expecting thrills and plenty of action and as is now the norm, a jaw dropping stunt from Tom Cruise, especially if this is to the last in the series.

5: BALLERINA

When we saw the original John Wick film, we of course wanted more, but 3 sequels, a prequel tv series and now a spin off film set between Wick 3 and 4.

Ana De Armas is in the lead role and the trailers have showed it to be full of action and will feature characters from the John Wick world including Keanu Reeves and sadly in his last role, before his untimely death, Lance Reddick as Charon so one we are looking forward to.

The only downside is like Mickey 17, this was on our list last year, but talks of demands for reshoots and more  behind the scenes issues does leave us with some concerns but that isn’t going to stop us seeing it.

4: GOOD FORTUNE

Aziz Ansari gives us a tale of a struggling man who gets his life swapped with a wealthy one, starring Keanu Reeves as an angel, this should be a great watch.

In post production as present, this certainly has high hopes for us.

3:THE PENGUIN LESSONS

We absolutely loved the book of a man who adopts and helps bring a penguin back to health and the lessons he learned from.

We must admit on reading we did not imagine Steve Coogan for the lead but the trailer shows that the film could be as magical as the book.

2: PREDATOR: BADLANDS

The last Predator entry, Prey was so well received, this new adventure at present, is moving from streaming to the big screen.

We really enjoyed Predator: Prey and we are fans of the Predator so we can’t wait to see its return to the big screen.

And our Number One film is NOBODY 2

We loved the original, we miss Bob Odenkirk since Better Call Saul ended, especially as Lucky Hank, the series based on Richard Russo’s book we enjoyed still has not been broadcast in the UK.

We are really looking forward to seeing where they go with the sequel, and expect like the original, plenty of great action sequences.

So, they are top 10 films we are looking forward to at present, as this of course is based on our knowledge of the franchises involved in most cases, as we are sure some original films that we were not aware of will get out attention and will be just as anticipated.
