Hi, it is Bill and Teddy the Chihuahua again and time for our Barking Mad About Films Monthly Newsletter.
In our newsletter, we will aim to share some of our thoughts and watches of the month and what we are looking forward to in the next month.
So, without any further ado, welcome to our September update….
BARKING MAD ABOUT SEPTEMBER
This month was as always full of rewatches, mixed with first-time views.
We had one of those rare great Netflix films, normally they can be a mixed bag, but Rebel Ridge was a great new update of a wrong man in a town, such as First Blood.
On the other end of the scale, Uglies was a pretty dull adaptation of the book, but it has been a big viewing hit, so we may get the other books in the series adapted and they maybe better, we will wait and see.
We watched a couple of Clint Eastwood classics in Gran Torino & True Crime.
We also watched a few British cult classic comedy films in The Pope Must Die, Staggered, The Supergrass, Whoops Apocalypse and with some American Leads but an all-star British comedy cast, Churchill: The Hollywood Years.
We watched some classic martial arts movies in Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master and Jean Claude Van-Damme Classic AWOL aka Lionheart.
We watched a fun comedy in Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, but it was tinged with sadness as our reason for this first-time watch was it starred the late James Earl Jones.
We watched The Batman to catch up on the story, before its follow on, spin-off series The Penguin began.
We also, after hearing Amazon Prime had picked up the rights to the TV show Nautilus, revisited the Disney classic, 20,000 leagues under the sea.
The big first-time home viewing highlights for us were Watcher, a fantastic stalker horror thriller on Netflix starring Maika Monroe and the great Late Night with the Devil, which sees spooky going ons occur on a late-night TV chat show, starring David Dastmalchian.
The other highlight was a revisit of the classic Beetlejuice, prior to seeing the sequel.

BARKING MAD ABOUT HORROR
As ever, we shall be doing the Shocktober aka 31 Days of Horror/Halloween challenge, as we try to watch a horror/scary movie every day.
We have got a few films lined up and are looking forward to finding some new and revisiting some old movies.
With sequels to Terrifier and Smile on the way, we may look to revisit the original movies.
We also will try to fit in a first time watch of the all-time classic Nosferatu, ahead of the big remake on the way.

BARKING MAD ABOUT THE CINEMA
We managed four visits to the cinema in August and it was a mixed bag sadly.
We started the month on a high however, as the legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was an absolute joy and should easily make our end of year top ten.
We saw the Speak No Evil Hollywood remake, and whilst the first half was far inferior to the original, when it went with a different route for the ending, it did pick up but certainly not enough to choose it over the original for any future viewings.
We saw The Critic, a good British film, which was despite its 1930s setting, felt just as relevant today as showed the harm that bad reviews can do to someone.
We ended the month with Never Let Go starring Halle Berry this has a few good jump scares but coming from director Alexandre Aja, we had higher hopes to be honest.
BARKING MAD ABOUT BOOKS
We once again had a few books in our read list that have been inspired by forthcoming films or films recently announced.
We loved Mickey 7, the basis of forthcoming Bong Joon Ho’s film Mickey 17.
We also loved People we meet on Vacation, another forthcoming adaptation coming from the works of Emily Henry.
We read the short story, ahead of its adaption from Mike Flanagan of The Life of Chuck from Stephen King book, If It Bleeds.
And two books we really enjoyed that are soon to be TV shows where Margo’s Got Money Problems and The Dispatcher.
BARKING MAD ABOUT HOME VIEWING IN THE MONTH AHEAD.
It is mainly going to be all about those horror and scary movies, but we may need to fit in rewatches of Joker and the Venom movies ahead of our plans to see their sequels.
BARKING MAD ABOUT LATE GREATS.
September saw the passing of THREE movie legends in James Earl Jones, Dame Maggie Smith and Kris Kristofferson.
We will definitely be looking to rewatch them in some of their works in the coming weeks and months, we are sure.
BARKING MAD ABOUT TV.
Currently we are loving The Penguin on Sky/Now and in keeping with our plans for a month of horror we are also loving the Creepshow TV series on ITVX.
We are looking forward to the return of Shrinking on Apple TV, a show we loved last year.
Two books we absolutely devoured have TV adaptations this month, Disclaimer which come sot Apple TV and Sweetpea which is coming to Sky/NOW
And as previously mentioned, coming to Amazon Prime, we are hoping it can fill the submarine hole that SeaQuest left for us, we will be checking out Nautilus.
