Many films have given us great merchandise opportunities from Clothes to Toys and we always love a bargain!
Like many others, we are subscribed to Groupon and Wowcher and we get advised of their daily deals. Now to be honest, it’s rare that they are movie related. There was a reduced price for the Bond in Motion exhibition at the London Film Museum a while back.
Of course, you need never miss one of these offers, as we always try to share them on the BMAF Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/barkingmadaboutfilms
One offer did intrigue us though, Wowcher offered a discount on food at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, a worldwide food chain that has now opened in London, full details can be found here
Bubba Gump is the seafood restaurant that Forrest Gump, in the Tom Hanks film of the same name, set up with his army friend Lt Dan Taylor, as tribute to his good friend, Ben Buford ‘Bubba’ Blue. In the film, Bubba suggests Forrest go into the shrimping business and sell the many recipes he
In the film, Bubba suggests Forrest go into the shrimping business and sell the many recipes he learnt from his mother. The restaurant is a must for fans of the film, with signature cocktails and dishes like ‘Jenny’s Catch’ named after the love of Forrest’s life.
It got us thinking what other great eating and drinking establishments would we love to see? A Greek Restaurant like that of Mamma Mia; A Deadpool themed Chimichanga fast food bar;A Amity Island-based seafood restaurant (we would hope however that Jaws was not in menu given sharks are now an endangered species)
How about a themed version of Jack Rabbit Slims from Pulp Fiction or a Mystic Pizza restaurant?
It doesn’t just have to be a restaurant, how about a Bar based on the Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars; A Bakery making Peeta’s Hunger Games bread; A Willy Wonka themed Chocolatier; A Austin Powers: Goldmember smoke and a pancake shop; A fast food van serving the Cuban sandwiches of Chef; The Three Broomsticks from Harry Potter could do well with selling Butterbeers; The Titty Twister From Dusk till Dawn could be popular too, but maybe that would be more of a nightclub for adults only =)
At Euro Disney, they do have a French restaurant based on Remy’s own in Pixar’s Ratatouille. We would probably draw the line at visiting a French restaurant based on the one frequented by Mr Creosote in Monty Python’s Meaning of life though, even if they did offer us a ‘wafer thin mint’
Of course, high costs for licensing agreements means these would have to be put on the food and drink so passed on to the customer and would likely make them a risky business opportunity! The failure of Planet Hollywood has perhaps shown they are not great money makers, compared to the likes of McDonalds, where if in France, we can at least, try a Royale with cheese, due to that pesky metric system!
How about you? Would you love more themed movie shops and restaurants? What would you love to see? Do you know any? We would love to hear from you here at Barking Mad about Films.
