What's This?

We were awaiting a film to start the other day and as per usual had to endure what felt like an hours worth of adverts.

First Harvey Keitel told us about Direct Line, quickly followed by Ryan Reynolds promoting BT Broadband with Idris Elba telling us the benefits of Sky Broadband.

It didn’t stop though, Jennifer Aniston telling us the benefits of flying with Emirates, those Meerkats had got Macaulay Culkin to hang out with them but worst of all are the consistent adverts in which Kevin Bacon, who has appeared in so many great films, ridicules himself to promote EE (the one with Britney Spears is a new low!)

A shame really as in the pass EE was Orange who did some great adverts to promote Orange Wednesday, the film council ones being the highlights where they would get a star and pitch a film to them and they would go for it but change it completely to be a memory of their work such as Sean Astin in ‘Lord of the Ringtones’ yes mobiles in the Middle Earth of Lord of the Rings.

Others to face them included Carrie Fisher; Spike Lee and a personal favourite for us, was Roy Scheider, complete with a Jaws ‘Bigger boat’ line.

They also featured the likes of Steven Seagal and even Darth Vader. They then went onto have Orange product placement, these included The Sweeney and The A-Team, a clever play on the sketch in Wayne’s World so the A-Team would have branded Orange computers etc and it would be obvious on screen! Also done so well by Sky Broadband using the Secret Life of Pets to complain about slow broadband service!

Of course we don’t just see the film stars plugging on the big screen, at home Jean Claude Van Damme suggests we have a Coors but Daniel Craig suggests James Bond would want you to drink Heineken; Mila Kunis suggests a Jim Beam although Matthew McConaughey suggests Wild Turkey; Not a drinker of alcohol, well George Clooney suggests a Nespresso.

What to have with the drink? A sandwich maybe? Sylvester Stallone suggests Warburtons bread but the Muppets suggest we have a Warburtons Crumpet! Tom Hiddleston and Nicholas Hoult both left the Marvel Universe to plug Jaguar!

Film Stars such as Charlize Theron and Gerard Butler will advertise perfumes but do we fall for it?

I don’t’have an EE contract phone nor did I have an Orange one either! My insurance isn’t with Compare the Meerkat, none of the alcoholic drinks are my brand of choice but It can work! I may have had a Warburton’s crumpet or two and my most recent aftershave was Sauvage which I guess I did fall for as I do like Johnny Depp, although as much as I like Jennifer Lawrence, I don’t wear Dior lipstick!

And of course that is the advert’s purpose, some of those products I may have not brought, but I certainly know all about them and have talked about them on Social Media!

Chihauhua with Sauvage aftershave
We admit Film Stars in adverts can make us spend! Not sure this made me smell like Johnny Depp though, pretty sure Pepper not keen on smell either =)

Do you like seeing film stars in adverts? Do you have a favourite? Have you brought something because of their appearance? We would love to hear from you
