Movies have changed over the years, extensive advertising campaigns with various trailers lure us in but sometimes the film ends up being a massive let down
The biggest example for me of recent years was Prometheus, a fantastic no voicever trailer promised great things and whilst the film was not awful, it never lived up to those hopes I had going in
Alien vs Predators 1 & 2 promise all out war between the creatures but both films gave us a little bit of the creatures and a lot of human story. Following those films, hopes were raised with a trailer for Predators promising 100’s of them targeting Adrien Brody, the film gave us 3 targets on him
Comedy is also a difficult one as a lot of the best lines will appear in the trailer, how often have you asked how was the film, and heard it was alright but the best bits were in the trailer?
Sometimes your love of a book means when you first see a trailer and see those images you imagined (the polar bears in the Golden Compass come to mind) only for the film to be ‘not as good as the book’
Transcendence promised good things from the direct of the inception but the film was confusing and therefore a let down for me
The excitement of an original can be tainted by a poor sequel, look how much hate there is for the Star Wars episodes 1-3 because of the love of the original trilogy, Die Hard 5 was truly awful and gritty Taken’s sequels lost the impact of the original after watering down for the lucrative 12a market
We will no doubt keep going, this year Mad Max & Jurassic Park amongst other s have been worth the vist but when will the next let down be
When have you been most let down by wanting to see a film?
