The Complete Hunger Games Steelbook: Buy it here

In 2011, I used to have a long commute to work so would read many books on my train journey to work, one of the books that was recommended to me was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It was a great recommendation as I read it in no time and quickly devoured its two sequels Catching Fire and Mockingjay!

I read with anticipation that the first book was to be adapted for a film, with an option for the 2 other books to follow it onto the big screen if the first was successful.

Incredibly, one of the things I was seeing at the time on Social Media and sites such as IMDB was the disappointment that actress Jennifer Lawrence, who had just appeared as Mystique in X-Men: First Class had been cast to play Katniss Everdeen.

I, personally had just seen her recently in Winter’s Bone and on that performance thought it was perfect casting.  Of course, now we know she completely owned the role, the film was a massive success.

Prior to the original film being released on Blu Ray and DVD, Catching Fire and Mockingjay’s trips to the cinema from the pages had been guaranteed, so I had made a decision that I would not buy it, until I could get all the 3 films in a box set.

However, this set was to be 4 films as the unpopular decision was made to split the last book into 2 films, as done previously with franchises such as Harry Potter; Twilight and the forthcoming Divergent finale.

A choice made to get more money from the franchise most likely, however, the 4th film was not such a success, which will leave splitting books to continue to be questioned. All 4 films were great in my opinion so was happy to have more screen time in the world of Panem. The first film will also have fond memories for me, as was the first film I saw in the IMAX format

A decision to wait to buy the complete series is now one I am now thrilled with, as Amazon have announced the complete Hunger Games collection will be released in a glorious steel book edition with a magnetic lenticular card too. This steel book will be exclusive to BluRay for them only. You can get it here

Sadly it would appear that no additional extras are included in the box set, so if having brought the films individually already, you may not find much reason to get this set. But if like me, you waited, then this will be a great way to get them all in one set.

It should also be noted that no reference is made to the Mockingjay disc including the 3D version.

If however despite this, the Hunger Games complete collection steel book is your idea of a dream package then the odds will forever be in your favour if you visit Amazon as it can be yours for just £32.99 on BluRay for its release date on 21st March

You can get it here but be quick as they are sure to be popular.

What is your favourite film franchise? Did you wait for all the films to be released in one go or do you prefer to get them individually? We would love to hear from you here at Barking Mad About Films
