Is Justice League, Premier League or Non League for DC Comics

What's This?

We finally decided to go and see Justice League this week, we were slightly concerned as many posts were hating on this film more than the Ghostbusters reboot, a film which we really enjoyed, so as always, and we suggest the same to you, if you want to see a film, see it and make up your own mind.

It was unclear if the reviews were Marvel fans trying to put down this film as part of the DC franchise, or if it really was poor. It is no secret that original director Zach Snyder left the project due to the tragic loss his family suffered, and Joss Whedon took over to completion.

We have found the most recent DC films a bit hit and miss, whilst Batman Vs Superman poor, Wonder Woman was a highlight in an already crammed market of films based on Comic book heroes but we decided to go into this film thinking the worse and were pleasantly surprised.

The film, like most of these, does not have the most complex of scripts, the bad guy Steppenwolf (Voiced by Ciaran Hinds) wants to obtain 3 mother boxes, which when combined will give him what it is needed to conquer Earth.

We learn that the boxes were separated, and luckily for us, one is with the Amazonians, which brings Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) into play, and also one is with the Atlantians, which allows us to see Aquaman (Jason Momoa)  for the first time.

With the world still mourning the loss of Superman (Henry Cavill), we find Batman (Ben Affleck) ahead of the game in stopping this villain, by forming a team to defend Earth, hoping their combined strengths can make up for the hole that Superman leaves.

With the losses of their mother boxes, we know that Wonder Woman, and after some persuasion, Aquaman are both on board, also added to the team is The Flash (Ezra Miller) who can move at superhuman speeds and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) who has been cybernetically  rebuilt following a fatal college accident, that allows him to amongst other things fly and hack into modern technology.

Needless to say, the team have their differences but team up to take on the Steppenwolf, with the help of another hero, in the now usual over the top CGI ending.

The film is nowhere near as bad as some people would want you to believe. Wonder Woman again steals the show, seemingly keeping the DC franchise going, The Flash brings a lot of humour to the film, Aquaman has promise but we hope for his forthcoming stand-alone film from James Wan, he loses the surfer dude talk, Cyborg was not the best of characters, starting off as a rather sulky character before learning the benefits of teamwork, but he does have the best backstory.

But its biggest fault is Batman, we found Ben to be really dull in this role, and we were not that thrilled by him in Batman V Superman either, he seems much better in roles like Argo for example. We hope that is something he can improve on in the forthcoming Matt Reeves Batman movie. The film is a bit of a mess but it doesn’t’ drag, as always, you can feel you are watching a computer game at times, with the excessive CGI and as usual, the villain is not that memorable. Justice League isn’t a bad film, its just not amazing either.

3 Star Review of Justice League
Whilst not bad as you may have been led to believe, Justice League has faults but is a perfectly watchable, yet forgettable blockbuster – 3 Popcorns
