What's This?

Having just seen the latest James Bond 007 film Spectre, like most of its audience we were wowed by the car sequences and the Aston Martin that Bond drove.

In fact, Bond cars are almost of much interest, when a film goes into production than the casting of the Bond Bad guy, Bond girl and of course who will sing the Bond theme tune.

For the record, it really has to be the Lotus Submarine/Car from The Spy who loved me as our favourite in the Bond collection of vehicles. All this  did get us thinking about other movie vehicles and our favourite movie car overall!
We loved the cars of Mad Max: Fury Road this year. We made mention to the cars featured in John Wick. These include one John loved almost as much as his dog, so much so, that when both were taken from him, absolute carnage followed!

On the subject of stolen cars, who could forget Eleanor, another Ford Mustang from the Nicolas Cage film, Gone in Sixty Seconds.

These High Performance/Sporty vehicles are of course ideal for exciting car chase sequences, in fact so much so a whole film franchise in The Fast and The Furious has been build around them. And prior to that, we’ve had cars racing in films before in the Cannonball Run films, and of course, we must not forget the Mini’s of The Italian Job.

But it doesn’t have to be a fast car to win movie goers hearts! Who could forget the former ambulance, now Ecto-1, vehicle to the Ghostbusters, and we will see it again soon as it will be returning for the reboot as well!

Also used for finding ghosts, the Mystery Machine is another iconic vehicle which gets Scooby Doo and the Scooby gang around!

As well as giving audiences, James Bond, we must not forget its writer Ian Fleming also gave us Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, our fine four-fendered friend!

Whilst on the subject of flying cars, we must also add the Ford Anglia, which took Harry Potter to Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the  Chamber of Secrets!

Cars can also play a part in comedy films, who can forget the station wagon that takes the National Lampoon family, the Griswalds, on their vacations? How about poor Jim Carrey, who was almost upstaged by the dog themed van for Mutts Cuts, in Dumb and Dumber.

Austin Powers said Yeah Baby to his Union Jack emblazoned Shaguar. Marty McFly wouldn’t have gone Back to the Future without his DeLorean.

Even our movie heroes need a car, who can forget the Batmobile for getting Batman around Gotham! Starsky and Hutch stopped the bad guys in their Ford Grand Torino.

Even the Dukes of Hazzard needed the trusty General Lee to get around Hazzard county!

We’ve given you a few but our favourite movie car, it has to be the Disney VW legend, Herbie! From racing around Monte Carlo, finding love in the Love Bug, going bananas or getting reloaded with Lindsay Lohan, we just love the idea of a car with its own mind and personality, sadly ours runs on batteries =)

What’s your favourite movie car? We at Barking Mad About Films would love to hear from you

Our cat and our remote controlled Herbie
The BMAF cat, Lord Hooch and our Herbie, sadly our number 53 is battery operated not real!
