Star Wars and Hunger Games fans are aplenty and these franchise fans will be out in droves for the new instalments arriving on our screens soon.

Currently in cinemas, a huge following of fans of the James Bond franchise have made Spectre another box office smash.

If we love a film on screen, it is more than likely we will see it return. This can be especially seen in the Horror genre, a good serial killer will get numerous outings. Just look at how many sequels these have had: Friday the 13th; Nightmare on Elm Street; Saw; Halloween and more recently Paranormal Activity.

Comedy can create a Franchise too, from the Carry on films to Police Academy.

And combining both, the Scary Movie franchise has made it to 5 films. It should also be noted that a Franchise doesn’t always need the cast to return, Scary Movie films continued without Anna Faris for example.

A movie franchise is also most likely box office gold, two of the biggest hits of this year, Jurassic World and Furious 7 are sequels to an already built franchise.

A franchise these days, now can spin off into other franchises, for example: Marvel’s Avengers have all had their separate films; Star Wars has its Rogue One spin-off and following the huge success of The Lego Movie, Batman is getting his own film: The Lego Batman Movie.

So what is your favourite franchise? Mine, I have mentioned before is the 4 Jaws films; the original, as is often the case, being my favourite. 2 was good, although changing the setup, to making the fish an almost serial killer to its young cast. The Revenge is a lot of fun, whilst 3-D is probably the one we have seen the least. It should, however be noted we don’t think we can rate it fairly, having never seen it in the third dimension =)

Of course, my Barking Mad About Films co-host Pepper much prefers the Beverly Hills Chihuahua trilogy from Disney. The first made the cinema, with its 2 sequels heading straight to DVD and losing lead Piper Perabo and Drew Barrymore, as the voice of Chloe. It did at least retain George Lopez as the voice of Papi for all 3 films though.

We’d love you to share your favourite franchises so please get in touch
