The Barking Mad’s have been on holiday this past week and have been on a cruise
After a long day at sea and over indulging the buffet, I ended up at P&O Seascreen, the romantic idea of watching films under the stars
Sadly, with a destination of Norway, with nearly 24 hours of light a day and weather of shall we just say the usual British type, it wasn’t the most attractive proposition, however Ms Barking Mad was off to bed & the film on show was Hobbit 3: Battle of the five armies which I wanted to see but she didn’t, so armed with numerous ‘sea blankets, I settled in to my lounger with a few others to see the conclusion to Peter Jacksons trilogy
It is a testament to the film that despite the cold & thrashing of water from the adjacent outdoor pool that it kept my attention, the boat is stabilised very well so this wasn’t like watching one of those awful found footage films but if I did it again I think I’d have to be on a Caribbean cruise =)
This being said I love the experience of a change to the multiplex and just last year I watched Jaws on the beach on the Isle of Wight & the film’s content obviously added to the experience! Secret cinema, despite a large ticket fee of £75 have made their alternate film experience viewing an event, so much so their recent Empire Strikes Back screenings proved so successful that the film re-enter the UK’s top 10 film chart
It only proves one thing, make cinema an experience and viewers will return but keep going way you are with high prices that are unaffordable for families and fast turn around of film to home rental, open air event cinemas could be all we get left with to see films on a big screen
