One man and his dog; both barking mad about films

Tom Cruise is still a Top Gun

What's This?
We at Barking Mad About Films are very much looking forward to seeing the Fifth Mission Impossible film released this week, however we read an article that said this is expected to not be a massive hit and the reason given was Tom Cruise!
This all seems to go back to his jumping on a sofa antic when declaring his love for Katie Holmes on Oprah! Sorry but when Mrs Barking Mad About Films agreed to marry me I would have done the same! Howeve, if you do think he’s over the top, we are asking you to remind you that whatever he does off screen is not the same as what he does on it
Last year, Edge of Tomorrow (or Live, Die, Repeat as it was re-released on DVD to find an audience) was considered a flop because of Tom in the lead role which is sad, as this was by far one of the best films of last year.
The uproar caused when he was cast as Jack Reacher was nasty but movies are always not going to be spot on with the book, if the actor does a good job and the film is faithful to the book, then we should be grateful! I’ve seen films that are nothing like the book when released and disagreed with the casting (However, imagine if studios listened to our outbursts, Daniel Craig would not be 007 & can you really imagine anyone else other than Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss in the Hunger Games?)
Tom appears to be one of the nicest actors about, at film premieres he signs autographs for hours so clearly cares for his fans, I’ve been to plays in London waiting outside stage door to get an autograph only to find the actor shot off through a secret entrance
He is as big a fan of the movies as us, you can clearly tell that from the people he works with, take the Mission Impossible Franchise, just look at the directors, De Palma, John Woo, J J Abrams, Brad Bird and now re-teaming with his Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie, he wants the best
He clearly is talented as both Tony and Ridley Scott worked with him as did Kubrick, Spielberg, Michael Mann, Cameron Crowe, I could go on
He has an eye for foreign cinema, he remade Open Your Eyes as Vanilla Sky and has a production company that helps produce many films
On screen, he wants the experience to be as great as possible so even does his own stunts, take the plane sequence for Rogue Nation as his latest effort to wow us
He has been around for years, Eighties films Risky Business and Top Gun stand the test of time,
He can do serious as well as blockbusters, take Born on the Fourth of July, Rain Man and Magnolia (which at least one of these should have given him an Oscar)
He has made some films that shouldn’t work on paper, I have a secret love of the film Cocktail (confession time, I thought he was so cool as the bar tender I had the film’s poster on my bedroom wall)
He will send himself up, take Tropic Thunder, you could argue his character stole the film from the likes of established comic actors such as Ben Stiller
So Barking Mad About Films asks if you have liked a Tom Cruise film before, give Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation a chance
His next announced film are sequels to Jack Reacher and the inevitable Top Gun 2 so he should be entertaining us for a while longer yet
