What's This?

Having shared our 10 favourite films of the first half of 2017,  it’s now the time to share the 10 we are most looking forward to seeing in the second half of the year.

It is a reflection of the times that it does include reboots and sequels but also some original films.

Of course, we are sure this list will include more as we learn more about them, but possibly because of our love of the existing films or cast, these 10 will be ones we know we will be rushing to see upon release.

  1. JIGSAW: SAW VIII

The Saw films are a bit of a guilty pleasure for us, the 7th film Saw 3D was also called the final chapter in 2010 so this is a bit of a surprise (if not unexpected, as these films have always done well at the box office)

The cast does include Tobin Bell again as Jigsaw (how?)  but we know little more than that, from the directors of Daybreakers and the writers of the 2 Piranha reboots, we, however, are not expecting this to be as good as the outstanding original but we certainly have missed these films at Halloween.

Jigsaw is scheduled to be released on 20th October

As yet the Saw films website has no info on the new film but we are sure nearer the time you will find trailer etc here

  1. Murder on the Orient Express

The original film was a classic with an all-star cast, this new version of the Agatha Christie classic again has an all-star cast including Johnny Depp and Kenneth Branagh (who is also directing) and we know the story is good, so we will be looking to check this one out when released on 3rd November

  1. American Made

Tom Cruise reteams with his Edge of Tomorrow Director, Doug Liman, for this film based on a true story of a pilot who works for the CIA and as a drug runner. We hope this a return to form for Tom as we were underwhelmed by The Mummy, his other film this year. Release date 25th August

  1. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Based on a graphic novel series and from Luc Besson, who gave us The Fifth Element, the sets; special effects and the creatures look amazing, we have high hopes for this film as we do love a great SyFy adventure. Release date 2nd August

  1. Thor: Ragnarok

We had suffered comic book fatigue, but this has been a good year having liked Guardians of the Galaxy 2; Logan and Wonder Woman. We, however, re more excited by Thor coming from Taika Waititi, direct of the excellent Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Release date 27th October

  1. War For The Planet of the Apes

This new telling of the Planet of the Apes franchise has to be one of the best-rebooted franchises to date! The Rise of the PotA and Dawn of the PotA are both excellent movies and early word is this 3rd story in the trilogy could be the best yet! Release date July 11th

Film Website:

  1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

It shows how good this year has been for films when Star Wars can only make fourth on the list! However, the new characters introduced in The Force Awakens and coming from the director of Looper meant this was always going to be a must-see for us. Release date 14th December

Film Website:

  1. The Hitman’s Bodyguard

The casting of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson look inspired based on the strength of the trailers. This looks like it could be a brilliant buddy movie action comedy and we really hope it delivers. We will find out on its release date of the  18th August

Film Website:

  1. 47 Meters Down

Sorry but we are a sucker for a Shark film, this looks like it could be as good as last years The Shallows as 2 sisters are trapped in a shark cage with only an hour of oxygen left and the great whites are circling. Scheduled for release on 28th July

Film website:

And our most anticipated film is:

  1. Blade Runner 2049

The first film is an absolute classic but with Harrison Ford returning as Rick Deckard, and Ryan Gosling in the cast we were always going to give this a chance, however when you add it is written by Hampton Fancher (who wrote the first film) with Michael Green, the writer of Logan and being directed by Denis Villeneuve, who gave us both the excellent Sicario and Arrival, our expectation fro this film is through the roof. The film is scheduled for release on 6th October

So many other films we are sure to see but these are the 10 that stand out for us and of course, we are sure many will get us as excited, but how about you? What can you not wait to see? What have we missed? We would love to hear from you
