Barking Mad About Films, TV, and Books

One man and his dog; both barking mad about films, TV, and books

What we watched in March 2025

April 2, 2025 by Bill Leave a Comment

Hi, it is Bill and Teddy the Chihuahua again and time for our March Barking Mad About Films Newsletter.

So, without any further ado, welcome to our review of our entertatinment viewing and reading in March .

BARKING MAD ABOUT MARCH

We watched quite a few classics in March, which included revisits to some old favourties.

One thing we have been doing this year is trying to watch a Robin Williams film every Wednesday, he is always a joy to watch, although we have seen him in mainly serious roles this month, including Boulevard; Seize The Day; The Best of Times and The World According to Garp.

Although he did provide the laughs voicing a dog in Monty Python‘s Terry Jones film, Absolutely Anything.

We have also decided to give some Westerns a try after a couple of Clint Eastwood films appeared on TV, it had never been our normal favourite genre, but getting older we enjoyed them a lot more.

It was a real mixed bag of films we watched at home in March, but the highlight was a rewatch of the fantastic Frank Darabont film, The Green Mile based on the works of Stephen King.

We also have been doing a lot of double headers, which we will talk about later on.

BARKING MAD ABOUT CINEMA

We had a very mixed bag at the cinema this month, starting with Marching Powder, which turned out to be the first time we had seen Danny Dyer in a film at the cinema since 2007.

We followed that with Bong Joon Ho’s film Mickey 17, we loved the book by Edward Ashton but we think the movie was even better, it is definitely our favourite cinema visit of the year so far, and we really want a pet Creeper =)

We then saw Last Breath, we didn’t really plan to see this one, as we had only seen the documentary it’s a dramatization of last month, but surprisingly it did a really good job and was just as tense as the documentary, possibly because it was on the big screen, which seemed to show the depths more.

We ended the month with Novocaine, a really enjoyable action movie and will surely feature in our end of year top 10.

BARKING MAD ABOUT DOUBLE HEADERS

We seem to have been doing random double bills this month:

We did a double bill of the two Mr. Bean movies.

We did a random Johnny Depp double bill of Chocolat and Public Enemies.

A Gregory Hines double of Running Scared and Eve of Destruction.

A Michael Caine double bill of Harry Palmer films with The Ipcress File and Funeral in Berlin.

A James Woods double bill of The Hard Way and Diggstown AKA Midnight Sting.

A Rutger Hauer double bill of A Breed Apart and Wedlock.

We watched Clint Eastwood in High Plains Drifter and A Fistful of Dollars.Adolo Adolescence

We also did a double bill with A Fistful of Dollars and its Bruce Willis inspired remake Last Man Standing.

BARKING MAD ABOUT CONNECTIONS

We like a connection so as a support feature for films we see at the cinema, we try and watch a movie connected to it.

Before we watched Danny Dyer at the cinema in Marching Powder, we revisited The Football Factory.

Mickey 17’s cloning fun inspired us to revisit Michael Keaton cloning comedy Multiplicity. Before we saw Woody Harrelson in Last Breath in a race to save a diver from the ocean floor, we watched him in a race to space in Fly Me to The Moon

Before we watched Novocaine, we watched Jack Quaid‘ parents, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan in D.O.A.

We were further inspired to make it a Dennis Quaid double bill of D.O.A, with  The Intruder after watching him in new Paramount+ show, Happy Face.

BARKING MAD ABOUT BOOKS

We once again had a few books in our read list that have been inspired by forthcoming films or films recently announced.

We read a few books that are heading to the screen, imminently and in the future:

Long Bright River by Liz Moore, now a TV series starring Amanda Seyfried and coming to Channel 4.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes which was in development at Amazon for a TV series.

We read classic romance novel Forever by Judy Blume which is coming to Netflix as a TV series.

We are HUGE fans of Will Trent but have been trying to read more from the show’s creator Karin Slaughter, so read Pieces of Her and then watched its Netflix TV adaptation.

We read Rare Singles by Benjamin Myers which is in development for a film adaptation.

We read a classic Sandokan adventure book by Emilio Salgari, which is the inspiration for a forthcoming TV series.

The Last Guests by J.P. Pomare which is to be a TV series starring Aisha Dee, although it has been renamed for its adaptation as Watching You.

Famous by Blake Crouch which will soon be a movie starring Zac Efron and Phoebe Dynevor.

War biopic The Narrow Road to the North, its TV adaptation starring Jacob Elordi comes to Amazon in April.

And Remarkable Bright Creatures about an octopus which will soon be a film starring Sally Field.

We also read In the Lost Lands, a short story by George R. R. Martin as our local cinema didn’t show its film adaptation, it was fair to say it was nothing like the trailer we saw for it though.

BARKING MAD ABOUT TV.

We watched some great shows in March:

Netflix had two great dramas in Adolescence and Toxic Town.

We enjoyed the Amazon adaptation of Fear, the book by Dirk Kurbjeweit we read last year and the absolutely hilarious Last One Laughing UK.

BBC gave us an enjoyable modern telling of Agatha Christie novel, Towards Zero.

ITV gave us A Cruel Love, about Ruth Ellis the last woman hanged in the UK.

We did enjoy the very far fetched The Au Pair on Channel 5.

BARKING MAD ABOUT ANIMATED MOVIES

We are planning an Animated April, with so many shows and films out in April, it will not be every day, but we are going to use as an excuse to catch up some recent movies we have still to watch including Inside Out 2 and Moana 2.

It also lets us revisit Aladdin and Robots in our Robin Williams Wednesdays.

With April being the month of Easter, it could be time for us to revisit Hop as well.

And of course, ahead of its Live Action remake, we are going to rewatch Lilo and Stitch, the original we would safely say is our favourite Animated film of all time.

BARKING MAD ABOUT APRIL

As well as animated movies, we have a few highlights we are looking forward to in April:

At the cinema, we can not wait to see Drop from the director of Happy Death Day and Steve Coogan in The Penguin Lessons, as we adored the book it is based on.

Movies at home, the standout is G20, two of our favourite shows are Will Trent and The Boys

G20 will be Will Trent’s lead, Ramon Rodriguez (helping Viola Davis in the lead role) take on Anthony Starr, best known as ‘Homelander’ in The Boys

We are also looking forward to the Director of The Raid, Gareth Evans, new film Havoc led by Tom Hardy.

Amazon are also showing the remake of The Crow as coming soon, so we think we will give it a chance, but are sure it will never replace the Brandon Lee masterpiece in our hearts.

TV we really like the look of Kevin Bacon starring The Bondsman, which is giving us memories of the classic TV show Brimstone, sadly cancelled far too soon.

Laughs will come with Taskmaster returning to Channel 4.

Disney highlights include a return to Andor for season two and we are looking forward to The Stolen Girl as well, although it is confusing as we know it by the book it is based on, Play Date by Alex Dahl.

BARKING MAD ABOUT REWATCHES.

This April, having aving now seen the trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines with the previous 5 movies on streaming services, it seems not to plan a rewatch.

And with the release of The Roses coming soon, we are going to revisit The War of the Roses film starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito that inspired it.
