We at Barking Mad About Films love to theme our movie watching.
This year we have for example done Fraser Fridays, in which we would watch a film that starred the actor, Brendan Fraser.
We have also done Washington Wednesdays in the same theme but movies of Denzel Washington, we were inspired by this after a rewatch of his two Equalizer films ahead of the third.
The good thing about doing these is you can discover films from these actors that you may have missed.
We would highly recommend Brendan’s film, ‘The Twilight of the Golds’ in which his character is shocked to find his sister may have an abortion, because the baby has the same gene which they believe made him gay.
Of course, it was also a great excuse to watch his ‘The Mummy’ movies again.
We have also of course done the same but with directors, a Tim Burton Tuesday for example.

We have also done this year a Saw Saturday, as we revisited the previous 9 movies ahead of Saw X.
It is a great way to remember past storylines and of course build up excitement for the new movie.
But by far the most popular are a film a day for a month challenge.
We are currently partaking in 31 Days of Horror, in which the idea is simply to watch a horror film a day in October.
Other popular ones are 31 Days of Christmas in December, SyFy September, Animation August etc.
You could because of Valentine’s watch a romcom every day in February or if like us, and have a soft spot for Shark movies, we did a Sharktember where we watched a shark movie a day for September.
But one of the best things about these challenges is the rise in social media, you can search for example #31DaysOfHorror and many posts will come up, and it is great way of discovering films, both new and old.
You will also find some set out a more specific plan, by choosing a subject for each day, such as your favourite Black and White Horror movie; Horror film featuring your favourite Scream Queen or King or to the horror itself, such as favourite kill by a monster.
It’s all a bit of fun and perhaps the only issue is when to watch Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, is it during the 31 Days of Halloween or the 31 Days of Christmas or even both?
What challenges do you do? We would love to hear from you.
