What's This?

The weekend is a time to relax from the weekly toll and what better way than by watching a film where lets just say you can switch your brain off for a bit

We at Barking Mad About Films do love a good B movie creature feature and we had to give Zombeavers a go when we heard about it, all you need to know about this film is written on the box, from the producers of Cabin Fever and The Ring so expect horror but also from the producers of American Pie which should alert you to the fact that this is a horror film not to be taken too seriously

Horror films these days have improved, it did seem for a while, scares had gone from them and replaced with strong scenes of torture such as Hostel, but thanks to the success of Insidious and the like scary Horror films are back in favour and whilst this doesn’t have the scares it did send me back to the time of the glorious Eighties with a film that has the feel of a Gremlins or Critters

Jenn has persuaded her 2 friends Mary and Zoe to go on vacation in a family friend’s cabin whilst she considers her options,  having found a picture of her boyfriend Sam cheating with another girl

Whilst out swimming they find a dam covered in bright coloured liquid which they have assumed is how beavers have marked their territory. We already know from the films opening that this is actually hazardous waste from a drum which has fallen from a passing truck

This waste has caused the beavers to go into a zombie state and they are looking for flesh to eat

Tommy, Buck and the cheating Sam turn up to the cabin to surprise their girlfriends only to get involved with the evil beavers. We find out just what a nasty piece of work Sam is when he sacrifices Zoe’s dog to escape the beavers (Pepper did not approve) we also find out who the girl was he was caught kissing

What follows is the groups various attempts to escape the beavers and I think I can say that this is not a spoiler, not all of them survive =)

The beavers will stop at nothing to eat anyone or anything, they even gang up to take on a grizzly bear!!

To make matters worse, as a side effect of a Zombeaver bite, you will actually turn into a beaver complete with buck teeth and tail

With a not well known cast, the film has the added benefit of you won’t know who will survive to the end

The beavers themselves are cute little monsters and even better, they are puppets rather than CGI which adds to this films charm

The film is a short 1 hour and 18 minutes and a ‘dam’ good  way to waste a bit of time and be entertained, especially if you like films such as ‘Piranha’. The film does end with a potential of a sequel featuring something other than beavers and I would certainly give it a chance should it be made
