What's This?

The other day I saw on its UK TV debut the film Raze, starring one of my favourite current TV show’s lead actress Rachel Nichols (Continuum’s Kiera)

You may have missed it as it was hidden away on the Horror Channel, It was unlikely to me as it’s a channel I always check the listings for and so should you if you don’t already

Granted they do show a lot of films that you’ve probably seen & ignored in shops such as poundland but don’t let that put you off as some of these can be absolute gems too, honest and even if they aren’t you can still have a laugh at them with a beer or 3!!!!

It’s not all stalk and slash films either as the previously mentioned ‘Raze’ shows, in addition you can find critically acclaimed Hard Candy & American Psycho starring Christian Bale amongst their schedule

You can find the originals of films that have now been remade or re-booted such as Black Christmas, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark & The Entity

You can also find films with TV stars, 24’s Elisha Cuthbert stars in Captivity, Supernatural’s Misha Collins stars in Stonehenge Apocalypse

Also big stars all had to start somewhere, check out Angelina Jolie in Cyborg 2, Liam Neeson in After.Life and even Steven Speilberg’s classic Something Evil

Of course the gore fests can be found too, the Collector 1 & 2, Victor Crowley can be found killing in the excellent Hatchet films, The original Freddy, Robert Englund can be found in 2001 Maniacs and before killing all in Hostels, Eli Roth’s great Cabin Fever can be found and even some of the ever popular ‘Saw’ films are showing too

Some absolute classics can be found too, the under rated Cube, Repo: the Genetic Opera, May, the Dark Night of the Scarecrow (you’ll be shouting Bubba didn’t do it for days) & Waxwork which I really enjoyed, starring amongst others, Gremlins  Zach Galligan

Of course you’ll find many Hammer Horror classics too (in fact the channel had a whole night dedicated to them following the sad passing of the great Christopher Lee)

It also showcases some foreign as well as Australian & Homegrown films too which you may have missed as unlikely they made a cinema near you

During the day there is a mix of Classic TV such as Dr Who & Wonder Woman, and PG friendly horrors (Pepper suggests Atomic Dog) as well as classics from my youth such as  At the Earth’s Core, Warlords of Atlantis, Quartermass and the Planet of the Apes sequels

So don’t be scared (but if you are, the Channel’s resident scream queen Emily Booth will look after you=) and why not tune in today, sure you’ll at least find a Bruce Campbell Classic (sadly not Waxwork 2 though)

As for Raze, it was a violent film about women fighting to death to be eventual winner & get back to their loved ones, well worth a watch if like the Battle Royale genre, sadly Rachel didn’t get past the first 15 minutes before being killed off =(

The Horror Channel can now be found on Freeview channel 70, Freesat 138, Virgin 149 & Sky 319
