THE BMAF REVIEW:
When we blogged about our top 10 films we were looking forward to this year, Godzilla: King of the Monsters was our number 2
We love the Godzilla franchise but also its director Dougherty (we loved his Krampus and Trick R Treat) so we had high hopes for this film.
It is a sequel to Gareth Edwards Godzilla, which we really enjoyed although like most, hoped that Godzilla spent more time on screen rather than concentrating on the human cast.
This film corrects that by giving us plenty of Godzilla as well as other creatures from the much loved franchise including Mothra; Rodan and Chidorah but almost the opposite to Edwards film throws away a plausible script.
The script seems to have been written around making a premise where the creatures can fight and whilst this is what most fans would want from the film, most audiences will be left frustrated.
And whilst you can argue that with all the destruction of buildings in these creatures wake would make visibility difficult, its not what you really want, but it is what we get, with most of the fights taking part in poor weather and dark so visibility is not the best.
But we are a sucker for a creature feature and we were more than entertained, but if you are not a fan of Godzilla this will not win you over.
We will certainly be in the queue for his next outing when he faces King Kong, last seen in Skull Island
