Twitter is very much a big part of my free time! You can find me tweeting all sorts of stuff, especially about Film under @bill626
Yet there did exist a time when I didn’t tweet and would moan at Mrs BMAF who seemed to all the time.
If you can’t beat them, join them!
I decided to get involved, finding movie stars & companies to follow. Needless to say, it got me hooked straight away. From trailers to behind the scenes, it can be a movie fans dream! Nowadays these days the tables have been turned, and I’m the one told to put that phone down!
One of my first tweets was to Simon Pegg, I had recently brought his biography Nerd Do Well as a signed edition from Forbidden Planet! Having not met him, I tweeted to say thanks for (pre) signing my copy!
He tweeted back simply ‘You’re welcome!’ which made my day. Other than meeting him, I couldn’t have said this to him any other way except maybe writing to him, but would I have got a reply?
It’s a simple gesture to reply to a tweet, but the excitement & joy it can bring is fantastic for the tweeter!
Of course, the feeling of meeting a star and signing something can’t be beaten, but chances are they could be more accessible with a tweet than seeing them out shopping!
Some Twitter accounts even if they do have a verified blue tick next to them (confirms that it is really them and not someone pretending to be them) will be managed by a PR team of course. I find it hard to believe Tom Cruise actually favorited my tweet, although it’s possible, given how much time he spends with fans at premieres!
One thing to be aware of, if you find content and share it with a star, expect lots of retweets as I found when Gremlins star Zach Galligan (@zwgman) retweeted me =)
In reality, a selfie with a star is probably the new autograph but I’m happy with tweet interaction, they are a lot cheaper than finding a star’s autograph on eBay!
Have you tweeted a star? What responses have you had? We’d love to hear from you here at Barking Mad About Films
