What's This?

It was recently announced that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson would be returning to our screens in the film reboot of Baywatch, coming from Seth Gordon, director of Identity Thief and Horrible Bosses.

Now at this time, I should confess to have never even seen an episode of the TV show or it’s spin-off Baywatch nights! I’m not sure why, I think initially it used to clash with Superman show Lois and Clark or maybe it was at the age where I was getting ready to go out on the town!

The Rock certainly does seem a good choice to fill the boots made famous by David Hasselhoff. And to star opposite also seems great casting in High School Musical star Zac Efron, hot off his comedy turn in Bad Neighbours.

The thing is when you say Baywatch, it’s normally the girls that are talked about in respect of the show. In particular, it pretty much made Pamela Anderson the star she is today.

Speculation for the girl roles has been rife, but the first announcement has been made. Getting ready to don the famous red swimsuit and no doubt practice running in slow motion is Alexandra Daddario! We last saw her on screen opposite her Baywatch co-star, The Rock, in this years’ fun popcorn disaster flick San Andreas! She is to play Summer, who was played by Nicole Eggert in the show.

We were first aware of Alexandra, way back in 2010, when she brought the character of Annabeth to life, from Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson novels. She played the role in both Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief and its sequel Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters1

We’ve also come across her in horror film Bereavement opposite Michael Biehn and she has even faced the deadly Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw 3D. But she has also shown she can do comedy in films such as Hall Pass, and even a mixture of both, in comedy horror too in Burying the Ex for Gremlins director Joe Dante.

She is also no stranger to TV work, just this year we have seen her in New Girl and The Last Man On Earth. She also appeared in the first series of TV smash True Detective.

We think she seems a really fun person and gets bonus points as like us as she is always sharing her dog pics on her Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/alexannadaddario/

We also follow her on twitter @AADaddario which where she re-tweeted the Rock’s announcement that she had been cast in Baywatch.

The film looks like it maybe R rated so we hope it will be just as successful as the reboot of 21 Jump Street from TV shown to screen.

We did joke in our title that perhaps it was worth drowning to be saved by her, but only in that we think she will be great in this film. So it looks like we may finally watch Baywatch after all but on the Big Screen!

Do you like these casting choices? If they were to cast C.J. which was  the Pamela Anderson role, who would you choose? We’d love to hear from you here at Barking Mad About Films!
